What a travel desk needs from software
A travel agent’s profit hides between two numbers: what the hotel, airline or cab operator charged, and what the customer paid. Spreadsheets keep them apart; general billing software often keeps only the second. Travel software should hold both for each service, show the margin before you commit, and handle GST rules that differ for packages, tickets and agent fees.
billinginfo’s Tours & Travel module is on the Plus, Pro and Max plans, on the phone and the web app; the travel page shows a demo agency.
GST for travel businesses, briefly
A tour operator can charge 5% on a package without input credit (with the declaration on the invoice) or 18% with input credit. An air travel agent may pay GST on a deemed value of the basic fare under Rule 32(3) of the CGST Rules. As a pure agent you can exclude the amounts you pass through and tax only your fee. billinginfo suggests these options and leaves every rate editable; check the treatment with your accountant.
A worked example
A family books a five-day package: hotel, cab and sightseeing, with your cost and a selling price for each. The screen shows a margin before GST, the tax at 5% without input credit, and the total. They pay 30% in advance; the balance falls due a week before departure and appears in the departures list. You pay the hotel and cab operator; each payment is an expense, so your cash book and supplier dues stay right. The family gets a voucher and itinerary with no costs on it.
