Which barcode should I use?
Code 128 holds letters, digits and symbols, so it suits your own item codes, shelf labels, serial numbers and godown bins. Any barcode scanner reads it. This generator switches to Code 128’s compact digit mode for runs of four or more digits, so long numbers stay short.
EAN-13 is the 13-digit retail barcode on packaged goods. Type 12 digits and the 13th (the check digit) is added: digits in odd places count once, even places three times, and the check digit brings the sum to a multiple of 10. For example 400638133393 gets the check digit 1.
An important note on EAN-13 numbers
A barcode generator only draws the bars. EAN numbers for products sold through other retailers must be licensed from GS1 India, which assigns your company prefix (Indian numbers usually start with 890). For barcodes used only inside your own shop, Code 128 with your own item codes is simpler and free.
Printing tips
- Print in black on white, and keep a clear margin (quiet zone) on both sides.

Why does my EAN-13 show an error?
If you type all 13 digits, the last one must be the correct check digit. Type only the first 12 and the tool adds it.
Do I need to register to use Code 128?
No. Code 128 is an open symbology; the text inside it is yours.
